Silhouette & Design
Every MAHER shoe starts with a drawn silhouette — the overall shape that gives the shoe its character. The silhouette answers what the shoe should say before a single material is chosen.
How we make them
From first sketch to finished sole, MAHER shoes are built around a precise set of choices — materials, shape, construction, comfort — none of which happen by accident.
The MAHER process
Good shoes don't happen by chance. They're the product of decisions — some visible, some invisible — made at every stage of design and construction. Here's how we make ours.
01
Every MAHER shoe starts with a drawn silhouette — the overall shape that gives the shoe its character. The silhouette answers what the shoe should say before a single material is chosen.
02
We choose materials that perform and age well — full-grain leathers, quality suedes, and considered technical fabrics, selected for texture, durability, and feel. Material as structure, not decoration.
03
The last is the mould a shoe is built around. MAHER lasts support natural foot movement — a wider toe box, a considered heel cup, and a midfoot that holds without gripping.
04
Cushioned anatomical insoles paired with shock-absorbing midsoles and outsoles chosen for grip and longevity. Every layer is there for a reason.
05
Built using methods selected for each silhouette — cemented, Blake-stitched, or Goodyear-welted — whichever makes the shoe perform at its best, for the longest time.
06
Edges, stitching, burnishing, toe shaping, and sole finishing. Every shoe is inspected by hand before it ships — to the standard we'd set for ourselves.
Materials
We use full-grain leathers, quality suedes, and technical mesh linings. Materials are selected for how they look on day one and how they hold up over time.
Leather softens. Suede develops character. The right material ages with grace rather than degrading.
Comfort
The MAHER insole is anatomically shaped — wider in the forefoot, supported through the arch, cushioned at the heel — designed around how a foot actually loads during a day.
Paired with shock-absorbing midsoles and outsoles chosen for grip and flexibility, the result is a shoe that earns the wear.
Every shape is drawn to balance visual presence with functional proportion. Nothing decorative without purpose.
Each pair is reviewed by hand before leaving — stitching, edges, sole adhesion, and shape all checked to a consistent standard.
Construction methods and materials chosen for durability. A MAHER shoe should still be great three years from purchase.
Every silhouette conceived with the considered, unpretentious design sensibility New Zealand is known for.
See it for yourself
Every detail above lives in every pair we make. The best way to understand it is to wear one.
